FIRST, pray for wisdom
If you are a parent, you know how much a child changes things. Priorities begin to shift, lifestyle habits change dramatically, and you value sleep like never before. But you also know how much joy comes with a child. In the midst of the joy, we need wisdom to make smart decisions. We want to guard her heart and her dreams, and we are well aware of how our lives will impact hers in the future.
SECOND, Pray for Peace
We named our daughter Shiloh, which comes from a Hebrew word meaning "House of Peace." Ironically, she hasn't granted us a lot of peace yet, but she is definitely signaling a new era for the two of us. Our nights have become filled with interruptions to feed the baby and, inevitably, I have succumbed to a cyclical pattern of alternating between frustration and an overwhelming sense of gratitude. It's such a crazy thing to go from wanting to shake the cry out of the baby to finding yourself weeping at the thought that you are the father of this small, defenseless child. We need peace right now. We need peace that surpasses our understanding, because this parenting thing is hard! :-)
THIRD, Pray for Rest
Quite honestly, we are still in the fog of the first weeks of parenting. We are experiencing little sleep and Sarah is taking the brunt of it. To be parents, we need frequent rest and healthy patterns of life. Please pray that God will open ways for us to find rest in such a restless season of life.
FOURTH, Pray for the Future
With the addition of Shiloh into the mix, we are needing to make various adjustments to our lives and we must also think of our future a little different. Sarah has had to stop working and postpone the completion of her Masters degree, while I have made various smaller life adjustments. We also have had to pull back significantly from responsibilities at ECHO. As we look into 2017, we need wisdom as Sarah will re-enter school, begin working again, and I continue to make adjustments to my life rhythms. We also want to look out for the health and future trajectory of ECHO, so we need discernment to make the right decisions.
Shiloh has completely changed the way we are approaching life and we couldn't be more excited to have you alongside us, praying for us and rooting for us along the way. Thank you for fighting for us on your knees. We look forward to seeing how God works over these next several months!
